Elvis
Elvis Nikiza and 5 other people run a café in Kigali. They all fled Burundi in 2015 when the situation got very difficult. They first stayed in house rented by Flaming Chalice International and later went out on their own. They then received support through the Flaming Chalice to start a small business and they chose a café. The café is now a source of income for the 5 people involved and provides a social place for other refugees to connect when they arrive in town.
Yannick
Yannick lived in the neighbourhood of kanyosha in Bujumbura. Kanyosha happened to be an opposition stronghold and he, like many other young people in his area participated in demonstrations against the illegal 3rd term of the president. There was an attempted military coup and the government took that opportunity to persecute everyone. Yannick had to flee the country.
