Mugisha
Mugisha was a University student at the public University of Burundi when the unrest started in Burundi.
She and her then boyfriend Emmanuel left the country and fled to Rwanda.
When they got to the Mahama refugee camp, she became pregnant and later gave birth to a beautiful baby.
Soon after the birth of the baby, Rev. Fulgence Ndagijimana visited the refugee camp in an effort to assess the circumstances and discover solutions.
While in the camp, he visited with many desperate people, young people who had just abandoned school and whose dreams were cut short. Mugisha Aline introduced herself with the baby. She had become a mother so soon and the whole process was not planned. She loved the baby despite the challenges of being a teenage mother in refugee camp. Rev. Ndagijimana was shocked when she said that she wanted to go back to University. He asked, how will you do that? She said that she wants to fight for her future and the future of her baby. Rev. Ndagijimana was moved to tears. He did not have money to pay for her studies, but promised to go tell her story. When he arrived back in Canada, he followed up on his promise and she got funding.
Mugisha just graduated from University this past summer.
We have other mothers who want to go back to University. Flaming Chalice is committed to making sure their dreams are not cut short. We want to send them back to University and the cost will also include childcare. Teenage mothers should not be left on their own. With your help, we can send other mothers to University, not least for the love of their babies.
