Rev. Fulgence sought a meaningful way to honor his mother when she died during 2020 in the Burundi village where she had lived since age 17. He decided that a water project would be a fitting tribute! When Fulgence was growing up, his mother walked ten kilometers each day to obtain clean drinking water. In 2020, village women continued to walk the same distance to obtain water for their families. The 600 children who attend the village school did not have water to drink or to wash their hands during the school day.
By 2022, water line construction funded by Flaming Chalice International began providing water to four villages, including the school and a community center. Over 1000 people now have easier access to water. Women are no longer burdened with a long walk to collect water. Young girls who previously had to drop out of school to help their mothers are now able to receive an education.
Clean, accessible water will improve hygiene and health for the beneficiaries, and reduce and even eradicate diseases! Your donations to FCI have significantly improved the lives of these rural villagers.
